On a perfect morning, the Bear’s crossed thee river to Rennie for some schoolyard rivalry.
With Rennie being a little short on players, it gave the team a chance to get everyone a game with no one missing out this week.
The boys started the game well, working hard for each other and continually moving the ball into attack, giving us a comfortable quarter time lead.
In the second quarter, Tunga put the foot down, kicking further away and showing glimpses of the form they showed in the first few rounds of the season.
The backline were again very tight and disciplined with our centre group contesting well and getting the ball to the forwards.
The third quarter showed more free flowing football from the young Bears, linking good handballs with great running and clean kicking to head into 3/4 time with a convincing lead.
The final quarter saw the coaches throw a lot of changes around, bringing new blood onto the ball and up forward, letting the youngsters show the team what they’re made of and they didn’t disappoint.
The boys really showed their commitment to each other and sticking to their game plan as a team.
The most pleasing part of the day was the way the boys played four solid quarters of footy and the spirit in which they played it.
It was pretty special serenading the mums with the team song at the end of a great victory.

The key for the game was if the players could keep their composure against our cross-town rivals.
The first quarter was a strong start with lots of possession gained through defensive pressure from all players on the court.
With just one change for the second quarter the momentum kept building across the court. The half time score was 18 to 5 a sign of the teamwork.
The second half gave us the opportunity to try some different positions across the court. The focus for the half was on our position around the attacking goal ring, straight drives to the ball and not overcommitting in defence.
The team finished strong even as it started to warm up. Some subs were used for fresh legs meaning we could run out the game.
A strong performance across the 4 quarters. Well done team.

The girls were excited to take on 3rd placed Rennie this week and love playing against some familiar friends.
There were definitely a few nervous faces before the game, but once the whistle blew the girls came out strong again.
Great use of angles and smart passing into the goal ring helped set the tone early.
Once again, the defensive pressure right across the court was outstanding, creating plenty of turnovers and giving our attackers lots of opportunities.
The communication and talk all over the court was fantastic. The girls have really clicked together as a team and it’s great to see the connections and confidence continuing to grow each week.
Training is clearly paying off, with everyone listening and putting into practice what the coaches have been asking for. A huge 100% effort from every single player.

A sunny day at Rennie and the girls were very nervous playing against their friends, but they still stepped onto the court with smiles and gave it their all.
It was a very tough game against a strong attacking side who came ready to win. A huge positive was seeing how much the girls’ defence has improved. They really read the ball well, used active hands, shadowed players, and defended strongly across the court.
The girls were rotated through positions based on their strengths while still sharing equal game time and opportunities. At this stage, the focus is still on building overall skills, confidence, and learning the game rather than locking anyone into set positions.
This was a great learning game for the team, especially around staying calm under pressure and understanding how the intensity of games can affect confidence and decision-making. Well done girls on another strong week of growth and teamwork!
