At the Mattioli Victorian Sprint Championships, three Sharks took on a high-octane program of fast and furious racing.
Grace Adams delivered one of the team’s strongest results, excelling in the 50m backstroke.
She clipped 0.02 seconds off her time in the heats to book a place in the final, before finding another 0.02 in the medal race to finish fifth — agonisingly short of the national qualifying mark by just 0.01 of a second.
Ed O’Connor produced a sensational clean sweep of personal bests, going four from four across his sprint program.
He posted a 0.48-second PB in the 50m butterfly for 13th, an impressive 1.57-second drop in the 50m backstroke for 12th, a 0.07 improvement in the 50m breaststroke for 19th, and a 0.46-second PB in the 50m freestyle for 13th.
Sam Turner took on one of the toughest workloads of the meet with seven events, earning a new personal best in the 50m butterfly and finishing inside the top ten in that race, as well as the 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle.
Meanwhile, further north at the SISA Tumut Meet, Freya Rae produced a dominant display in the pool.
She stormed to victory in the 200m breaststroke with a remarkable 9.90-second PB and backed it up with wins in the 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke and 200m freestyle.
Rae also claimed silver in the 100m freestyle to round out a superb day of racing.
Back home, the Sharks’ fourth week of club nights has also hit the waves with great success. Plenty of PBs have been smashed as swimmers continue to build confidence and speed, with a number of shining performers recognised through the club’s Sportspower Awards.
