The season has started with excellent fields, and the club is delighted to welcome three new members in the first few weeks of what promises to be another stellar year.
Alex Sattell, a junior beginning his snooker journey; Ayden Ballantyne, an 8-ball regular expanding his repertoire of sporting pursuits; and Sai Nadu, a recent discovery from Albury Commercial Club, have all joined the club. On behalf of the club, we welcome you and hope you thoroughly enjoy your snooker experience with us.
While the club operated at a social level over the Christmas and New Year period, members of the Ridley family have been busy representing the club in competitive play.
Club champion Adrian Ridley recently competed in the Asia Pacific Seniors Snooker Championship, an event he previously won a few years ago.
Adrian finished runner-up in a super-strong field, going down in a 4–3 nail-biter of a final. Congratulations on yet another achievement, Adrian; you continue to remind us how fortunate we are to compete regularly alongside you.
Not to be outdone, the junior Ridley family cueists also performed brilliantly in the Australian Junior Snooker & Billiards Championships held in Albury during January.
The youngest family member, Luca Macheda, showcased his emerging talent with a third-place finish in the Under-15 Australian Junior Billiards event, while his older sibling, Mia Macheda, finished runner-up in the Under-18 Girls Snooker Championship.
The final of this event was a beauty, with Mia achieving a personal best break of 31 to take the second frame of the match.
Congratulations to both Luca and Mia, the club looks forward to watching your development and seeing club handicaps plummet over the coming years.
The first club event of the year was the Past Players Award, contested on Monday, February 2.
Deb Harbrow, returning after a litany of health challenges and celebrating the recent birth of her granddaughter, made a brilliant start to the year by defeating perennial finalist Darren Edwards to claim the 2026 title. Congratulations, Deb, and welcome back to the final table, Darren.
On Monday, February 9, round one of the year-long Diggers Tribute event was held.
Kevin Young was the first to record winner’s points, defeating a gallant Dave Arzuhaldzic in a blackball final after a field of 13 had identified the pair as playoff participants.
Congratulations to both gentlemen, and best wishes for the 2026 season.
The two social evenings conducted so far saw Dave Arzuhaldzic defeat Darren Thompson on February 4, while Darren McKernan collected the chocolates with a win over the ever-consistent Darren Edwards on February 9.
