A record field of 18 players contested the event, meaning preliminary rounds were played with only 10 balls to ensure hostilities were finalised before Club Mulwala’s closing time.
Mia’s opponent in the decider was Ian Irvine, who is also to be congratulated for working his way through the qualifying stages of a very successful event.
The Bazza’s Quirky Calendar Cup is played in honour of our former committee man and long-term club member Barry Jackson, who was also officer in charge of club artwork and graphic design until his retirement from competitive play.
We are very grateful for all of your work for our club, Barry, and hope that the naming of this event demonstrates how much we value your efforts.
Round 1 of qualifying was conducted on Monday, 23 February, and Luca Macheda produced excellent form to claim his place in our final with a win over Heie Hansen.
Luca will play the winner of Darren Thompson and Debbie Harbrow, who had to defer their match due to a late finish on Tuesday, 24 February.
Another 18-person field saw doubles being contested at the social night on Wednesday, 18 February.
Darren Edwards and Daryl McKebrnan took out the Club Mulwala vouchers in the final against Dave Arzuhaldzic and Kev Young.
Mia Macheda continued her excellent form by taking out the contest on Wednesday, February 25, over Heie Hansen, who is very close to opening his account for the year.
As can be seen on the ClubMulwala website, its members’ newsletter, and our Club Mulwala Snooker Club Facebook page, we welcome new members or anyone who may like to give snooker a try. ClubMulwala sponsors our club very generously, so our value-for-money ratio for players is very high indeed.
There are a variety of events held every Monday and Wednesday evening, and there are plenty of opportunities for new players to join or come along to try our facilities.
We have two excellently maintained full-size tables, which have recently been resurfaced, and a new state-of-the-art lighting system.
Our snooker room is available for competition, practice, and visitor use, and the club has its own regularly updated handicapping system to ensure players from beginner to advanced levels can compete equally.
There are also plenty of experienced and skilled players who can provide advice and tips on how to improve your game, or perhaps adapt it for those who have played pub or social pool in the past.
Please contact us on either 0497 062 443 or 0418 361 779 or visit us on a Wednesday evening before 7:00 PM if you would like to give snooker a try.
