Now in its second year, the month-long fundraising initiative, supported by the Ovens and Murray District Swimming Association Inc. (OMDSA), encouraged swimmers to complete sponsored laps while raising awareness and funds for people impacted by cancer across the region.

A highlight of the campaign was the Sunshine Swim Relay, held during the OMDSA Relay Championships earlier this year. The event brought together swimmers from clubs throughout the district, with mixed-club teams creating a fun, inclusive and supportive atmosphere. Participants ranged from experienced senior swimmers to children as young as seven years old, with competitors free to swim any stroke as they united for an important cause.
The $2,495.04 raised this year brings the Sunshine Swim's total fundraising over its first two years to an impressive $10,000.

Funds raised will support the Sunshine Trust (previously The Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust), helping ensure people diagnosed with cancer across the region have access to high-quality treatment and support services close to home. Donations contribute to Wellness Centre programs, research, clinical trials, staff education, patient care and essential medical equipment, making a real difference to local families.
Ashlee Grace Activewear & Swimwear generously offered their support as a major sponsor for the second consecutive year. The business donated gift vouchers for the winning relay team, adding to the excitement of the relay event.
The Yarrawonga Mulwala Swimming Club also acknowledge the dedication of swimmers, families, volunteers, sponsors and supporters whose efforts made the fundraiser another outstanding success.
"Reaching $10,000 in just two years is an incredible achievement," Yarrawonga Mulwala Swimming Club Secretary, Renee Cox said. "It reflects the generosity of our community and the willingness of people of all ages to come together and support local families affected by cancer."
President of the Ovens and Murray District Swimming Association, Dario Prighel, said he was extremely proud of the way clubs across the district embraced and supported the event.
With growing participation and community support, the Sunshine Swim continues to establish itself as a highlight on the local swimming calendar, proving that together a community can make a lasting difference.
