As the autumnal month of April was nearing its close, a lovely day was on hand at the home of footy and netball Bull Plain Road as the Hoppers hosted Picola.

With a handful of changes due to injury, the Hoppers took a weakened team into battle.
This showed in the first half as sloppy teamwork, poor execution and poor ball handling were showing as Picola took a 9-point lead at quarter time and a 20 point margin at the long break.
McInness who started up forward and Fountain on ball were a couple who were bucking the ineptitude of the Hopper play.
Things began to change when Sudholz went on ball, Kirchen dominated at half back, Shaw was in every contest and Strawhorn hit the board twice.
Down by 7 coach Haley told his team that they needed to get the little things right and early goals to Barker and Strawhorn gave the Hoppers the lead.
Picola hit back, then with about 4 minutes to go Strawhorn had a shot from 45 out. This dropped short and was best read by first gamer and sub Brad Burrows who confidently took the mark, went back and kicked truly from 15 out.
The ball then went between teams half forward lines until with 10 seconds to go the visitors took a mark 30 out on a medium angle.
The siren roared then the Hopper faithful also roared as the shot went askew and Rennie had held on to win by 3 points.
Not the greatest game to watch but a super result for the Hoppers who have won 3 out of 4 matches.
Strawhorn ended with 3 goals.
Awards: Best Players: Cam Sudholz and Jarryd Fountain.
Award winners sponsored by Woods Bus Lines: James Shaw, Dillon Kirchen and Brad Burrows.
Reserves
Rennie 26.13.169 defeated Picola United 3.3.21.
After a week off to recover, the reserves took on Picola at Rennie’s home ground. With a few players still out and a couple of boys going up to the seniors, it gave rise to opportunities for younger players to fulfil some new roles.
Tully Woodward and Rowan Thwaites were solid in defence whilst young rucks Marcus VanMaanen and Brandon Datson won every ruck contest and were able to give George McBurnie and Mark Wilson first use of the footy.
Ben James and Adrian Smith showed their skills up forward, hitting the scoreboard multiple times.
It was a huge win for the boys as they go 4 from 4 for the year, and hope to continue this hot streak as they take on Deni at home next week.

Under 11s
It was another fantastic effort by the little Hoppers with a convincing win over Picola who were undermanned.
A big thanks to the teammates who swapped jerseys to help out Picola.
Henry Wilson and Lenny Legudi were dominating with the ball and little Paige Oughton clearing the ball from the packs with Jaxon Bryon Doric kicking a big goal up forward.
Another great result for the under 11s.

May 27 is reunion day at Rennie as Bert Tait’s premiership teams relive past glories, but the club would love to see all Rennie premiership players there that day as well as anyone who has ever pulled on the green and white as part of the 15 senior flags or any part of Rennie’s first 89 years.
