Swimmers make their Splash at Vic Champs

Four swimmers from the Yarrawonga Mulwala Swimming Club competed at the Mattioli Victorian Long Course Country Championships in Geelong last weekend, joining more than 800 swimmers from 22 clubs across Victoria for three days of high-quality racing.
With tough qualifying times required to compete, simply earning entry to the championships was a strong achievement for the Yarrawonga Mulwala team.
Strong starts on Day One
Jocelyn Cameron in the Women’s 50m Breaststroke.
The club’s campaign began with Flynn Cox (13) delivering a solid swim in the 200m Individual Medley, helping to settle early race nerves.
Darcy Cox (18) followed in the Men’s 50m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke, recording his fastest times of the summer. Both swims also earned him qualifying times for next year’s championships.

Lara Angwin (16) also kicked off her competition on Day One, producing a strong performance in the 100m Breaststroke.
Standout performance on Day Two
Flynn Cox in the Boys 13yrs 200m Individual Medley event.
Day Two featured one of the meet’s standout swims from coach-swimmer Jocelyn Cameron. She took an impressive 2.48 seconds off her entry time, won her heat and climbed 13 places in the overall seeding.
Darcy completed his program with the 50m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle, while Lara continued her consistent form in her favoured 100m Backstroke, executing her race plan well and finishing one place higher than her original seeding.
Personal bests on Day Three
Flynn maintained his strong championships in the 100m Breaststroke, recording a personal best by 0.95 seconds.
On the final day of competition, he saved his best performance for last in the 13 Years Boys 100m Backstroke, posting a 3.50-second personal best and moving up six places in the rankings.
The Victorian Country Championships remain a highlight of the state’s country swimming calendar, offering athletes the opportunity to compete against Victoria’s best country swimmers on a high-quality stage.
