Round three of the Wilby and District Tennis Association was played on the weekend. It was an interesting weekend with a close match, a washout and a forfeit.

The highlight of the weekend was Wilby hosting their first match for nearly two years. It was fantastic to see these courts being used and the traditional Wilby afternoon tea was incredible.
On the court Wilby and Burramine had a very close battle overall. Wilby’s men got off to a great start winning all six sets with Craig Prescott, Russell Whinray, Anthony Hammon and a rotation of juniors all in great form.
Burramine bounced back in the ladies to win four sets to two with Tess Bassett best on court not dropping a set.
The mixed was also won by Burramine three sets to one with some close battles.
Overall, Wilby were victors by two games, 66 to 64 meaning the points were shared four each.
Archrivals Tungamah and Telford played alongside the Boosey Creek. Tungamah continued their great form in the mens section with the squad of Josh Buerckner, Jamie Hicks, Xavier Chessells and Thomas Lawrence all winning their sets.
Tungamah were leading 3 sets to 2 in the ladies section when a downpour meant the end of tennis for the night. Tungamah taking the points 5 to 3.
Unfortunately, Mulwala had to forfeit against Savernake with some Mulwala players being ill. Savernake awarded all 8 points.
After Round 3 the ladder is Savernake 20, Tungamah 19, Telford 15, Wilby 8, Burramine 6, Mulwala 4.
This week Friday night will see Burramine host Mulwala, and Wilby will visit Telford. On Saturday Tungamah will make the trek to Savernake.

Thursday Ladies Tennis
The Thursday Ladies played Round 2 of their season last week. In glorious conditions for tennis all in attendance had an enjoyable night.
There were many long rallies which meant it was well and truly dark as the last sets of the night were completed.
Weeties and Fruit Loops had a tight battle with each team finishing with 3 sets before Weeties were declared the winners 28 to 25 games. This was despite Fruit Loops’ Tess Bassett winning all of her sets.
In another close battle Cornflakes won the first three sets of the night and Rice Bubbles won the last three sets. Overall, Rice Bubbles won 27 games to 25 with no player winning all of their sets.
Fruity Bites claimed victory four sets to two against Cheerios with the overall games being very close indicating many close sets. Leah Mathison was best on court not dropping any sets.
There was a similar result between Nutri Grains and Just Rights with Nutri Grains winning four sets to two. In a very even contest, no one was able to win all three sets.
In the final match of the night Special Ks combined well to defeat Coco Pops five sets to one although most sets were very close.
Mother/daughter combination Narelle and Lucy Bassett were both undefeated.
The ladder after round 2 is Rice Bubbles 12, Fruity Bites 11, Nutri Grains 10, Special Ks 10, Coco Pops 8, Fruit Loops 7, Cornflakes 7, Cheerios 6, Weeties 6 and Just Rights 3.
Goulburn Murray Tennis
The Goulburn Murray Tennis Association didn’t play due to the long weekend.
Kids having a ball
Saturday morning tennis had the week off due to the long weekend. Tennis will resume this Saturday with the courts filled with players.
Tuesday Mens Tennis
The Tuesday Mens’ competition will begin on Tuesday, November 11. Organiser Ash Wheaton has been very busy creating 13 evenly matched teams and these have been disseminated.
Fill-ins are always needed if you would like to be added to this list.
Rock up and play sessions
The YLTC holds social aggregate style tennis on Tuesday morning commencing at 9am for the ladies and Wednesday at 1pm for mens social hit.
There is no compulsion to attend each of these on a weekly basis although once you have tried it once it will be hard to not keep going back.
