Another tough day at the office against a top four team who, like last week, play a very inclusive game across halfback with lots of interchange between between halfbacks and onballers who push forward hard. This allowed the Kats to have 12 individual goalkickers.
Bruce kicked the only goal for the Hoppers, who were best served by Heath Smith across halfback, young gun Ollie Cope who is fearless, and Freeman and Burns who never shirk a contest.

The Young Hoppers travelled to Katandra to kick the dew off on a slightly cool and overcast morning at Kat Land. The gameplan was to attack the footy and keep the ball moving forward, and with great teamwork the Hoppers certainly delivered that in spades. It is wonderful to see the team using the skills that they have been learning at training and their improvement from week to week. Jack Bruce led the way and was rewarded for his hard work with two big goals. Tom Bruce, not to be outdone by his older brother, showed great attack while Colby Webb was in and under knocking the ball forward. Huddo Gilbert had some booming kicks and Archie Wilson took some big goal saving marks.
On a final note, we gave an award to young Hunter from Katandra who showed great sportsmanship by checking in on and helping up one of our players who was a little winded after a strong contest. Well done all on a real team effort!
Awards: Red Ag - Jack Bruce; Lake Mulwala Bakery - Tom Bruce; Eternal Paws - Colby Webb; Darren Lewis Fencing - Hudson Gilbert; Oughton Irrigation - Archie Wilson; Legudi Family/Middys - Hunter from Katandra U11s.

Rennie 32 lost to Katandra 46
Blood sweat and tears went into Saturday’s game, ‘literally’. A valiant effort by our young team who really stirred up some Kats, pushing them to work harder than anticipated. They showed cased some amazing skills and resilience; our girls never gave up. The whole team stood up together, had each other's backs and worked tirelessly for the entire 60 minutes.
Shout out to Ella Rhodes on her 50th senior game and, boy, did she have a ripper - slotting goals in from all around the circle under enormous pressure. Great effort team.

B Grade
Rennie 44 lost to Katandra 70
A valiant effort by the Rennie Hoppers this week in Katandra. Despite facing a formidable opponent, B Grade demonstrated remarkable progress by seamlessly translating their training drills into game situations. Employing effective front cutting and utilising space on the court, they kept their opponents on their toes throughout the match. BOC goes to young Georgia Phillips whose athletic ability and want for the ball saw her chasing up every loose ball and getting her hands on multiple intercepts.
With a few injuries in the defensive end over the past few weeks, some shuffling was done to try some different combinations. The ever-versatile Dee McPherson made the change from GS down to GK to inject some height and strength into the defensive end. Big Dee has certainly lived up to her nickname with her combined strategic thinking and defensive prowess resulting in some clean turnovers. Jess Barton’s intensity and dedication was unmatched. She worked tirelessly to disrupt her opponent’s rhythm and, despite running out a full game in the backline, was still able to execute the most poised three-feet.
Celine Collins Bye also worked tirelessly to gain possession after possession in the defensive ring. Celine showed her experience through reading the play, intercepting balls and her ability to use her voice to direct play from the defensive end. Zoe McKenzie and Ebony Williams maintained a dynamic presence in the ring. Their understanding of each other’s movements meant they kept their opponents on their toes. Ebony’s vision and ability to use the space along with Zoe’s strength and aerial ability was impressive.
Our midcourters, Alainah Bye and Ella Harvie, displayed exceptional drive and creativity, relentlessly pushing forward to link the defensive and attacking ends of the court. Alainah’s fast footwork and impeccable timing found her in prime position time and time again. Ella’s fierce determination and competitiveness seems to grow each week and her hard work to get front position allows for her to be well placed when feeding into the goal ring. Georgia Hope is also showing her teamwork skills by watching and screening the play, knowing exactly what her role is on the court and displaying a whole-body defensive and attacking approach to the game paired with dynamite passes into the ring.
Although the final score may not have favoured them, B Grade emerged from the match with their heads held high, proud of their collective effort and the strides they've made in honing their skills and enhancing their understanding of the game.

Rennie 31 lost to Katandra 41
Gaby's intercepts and Sarah D’s fight for the ball supported by Rachel's tight defence created many turnovers in the opposition’s goal end. However, the shooters from Katandra displayed impressive skill and precision, which ultimately contributed to their victory.
Georgie T's drives, Meg's offerings in the midcourt, along with Nada and Georgia N's strong passes into the ring, contributed to keeping us in the game. The girls worked hard in our goal circle with Haylee and Leila’s movements and Sarah C's efforts to grab rebounds providing us with valuable second chances at goals.
Despite a 10-point difference, the girls fought hard and ensured an exciting and enjoyable game to watch.

C Reserve
Rennie 21 lost to Katandra 42
C Reserve returned to take on the team that knocked us out of the finals. Hoping for a different result, the C Res Hopperettes were unable to deliver. With Shez ‘Ricky D’s’ McBurnie transitioning back to the shooting end, with the support of Britt and Illa, the girls only went down by three and one in the first and last quarters. The midcourt of Brodie, Trudie, Loz and Edos Speedos kept heads up and tried all game. Speedos McKinnon was a constant with reoffering all game. The defence of Jae and Gail worked hard with great rebounds and positive chat, both adjusting well when Britt transitioned to the defensive end and with Trudie having a go in GD. Some great passages of play and teamwork. Some work on decision-making ahead in preparation to take on Berrigan this week.
Awards: Mulwala Bakery - Eden Mackinnon; North East Camper - Gail Woolner; Miss Dolly - Jae Langford; Jaycee's - Brodie Nish.

It was an overcast day in Katandra, but the sun shone through at the start of the U17s! With feet on the line and fast drives to the ball, the girls worked together to see themselves scoring 20 goals both quarters in the first half. With the defensive pressure making it hard for Katandra to score we were rewarding the efforts in the attacking end. Every job was fulfilled, every ball was chased and everything we asked of the girls was done!
The girls played until the final siren, finishing with a scoreline of 75-19. We wish we had nine awards to give!

Rennie 40 defeated Katandra 16
The U15s started the day off with a very convincing win over Katandra. Our attacking end was on fire all day, working hard to shutdown the Kats defence and score at every given opportunity. Layla, Charlotte and Jasi in goals proved that their hard work at training really pays off, with all three working the ring and utilising the space. Mim, Shell and Ruby in the midcourt worked the ball efficiently down the court, ensuring to use their channels and not force it.
Co-captain Mia and vice-captain Sienna proved to be incredibly versatile this week, both stepping into different positions on the court. Mia had a stint in GA, seeing her hardly miss a shot and slotting in beautifully with our other gaolers. Sienna found herself down the defensive end in GD for the first time this year, working well with the ever-trusty duo of Tess and Sam. All three of them had a field day pipping off the Kats’ passes all game. An incredible effort by the whole team.

It was a great game out at Katandra for the U13s. It started evenly with both teams contesting the ball and giving everything they had. Our defence worked exceptionally hard with Poppie strong in defence, reading the ball well and partnering with Lily - they worked well together, often not letting the ball get into Katandra’s ring. Ruby was a key player in WD getting intercepts and applying constant pressure. Maisie worked well, moving from defence into attack, and was strong in the attack ring partnering well with Maka. All girls had a great game and are really starting to work well as a team! Go Hoppers!
