Moira Shire Mayor Libro Mustica said the rebuild was essential as the damage to the building made it hazardous for its many users.
“This project saw the relocation of the community gym into this new space and also included the upgrade to the existing football change room facilities to incorporate two unisex change rooms with both shower and toilet facilities; a medical and first aid room; and two unisex umpire change rooms,” Cr Mustica said.
“I would like to acknowledge the Federal Government for $250,000 of funding for this project through the Drought Communities Program.
“The Tungamah Recreation Reserve changing rooms project removed hazards such as asbestos, water leaks, exposed plumbing work, and cracked tiles. “Most importantly, it has created a new, modern facility that is comfortable, functional and welcoming with participants wanting to use it rather than avoiding it.
“It will bring about social, economic and health benefits to this already vibrant rural region.”
Federal Member for Nicholls Damian Drum said the new facilities at Tungamah Recreation Reserve would benefit the entire community, not just sporting clubs.
“The redevelopment will encourage the community to hold functions and events in a modern space and I’m thrilled the Federal Government has been able to help deliver such a positive outcome,” Mr Drum said.
“For the sporting clubs that use the facility, I’m happy for them that competition looks like it will return to normal in 2022 and that they will be able to make the most of the new rooms.
“The redevelopment at Tungamah Recreation Reserve is just one of several projects that have been co-funded in the Moira Shire by the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program.
“Other projects include the extension of Numurkah Skate Park, installation of permanent outdoor gym at Nathalia parklands, and an upgrade of Picola Hall.”
