Tungamah 28 defeated by Nathalia 31
With the sun shining and it being the first weekend of finals our girls had more nerves than usual. We were facing the very tall Nathalia team and we knew it would be a tough match up.
It didn’t take long for our girls to settle once the first whistle had gone and they came out firing. They were looking like they wanted the ball more and weren’t stopping for anything.
At quarter time we lead Nathalia by 2 goals. Seeing no changes made to our side we came out strong to start of the second quarter. We got a nice lead throughout the second quarter but Nathalia scored a few quick goals towards the end and at the half time break we still held our 2 goal lead.
A few changes were made at half time to see some fresh legs come on through the mid court. Throughout the third quarter we let Nathalia’s height work to their advantage and with them scoring a few goals in a row we fell 7 goals behind.
Coming into the last quarter the coaches asked the girls to run it out and give it their all and leave nothing in the tank. To the girls credit they did exactly that. They fought until the final siren and saw us going down by 3 goals to a better side on the day.
Thank you to all the volunteers that helped on the day and to the crowd that cheered us on right until the final second.
We finished off a great season on Sunday and the girls all had a fantastic year. Coach Brodie said she has really enjoyed coaching the girls through the season and they have some real talent and is excited to see 6 of the 9 girls step up into senior netball next year.
Thank you to the team manager, Melinda Giggins, the weekly write up from Lisa Walker, Molly Saunders for stars each week and the volunteers each week from umpires, scorers, timekeepers, first aiders, the parents who each week run around so their kids can play this sport and so on. None of this would be possible without your help.
Good luck to the Tungamah seconds football side who play this Sunday in Nathalia.
