It was a tough day at the office for the Bears as the Seniors hit the road to take on Katamatite.
While the scoreboard didn’t fall the Bear’s way, there were still some solid contributors across the ground.
Sam Ferguson worked tirelessly all day, leading from the front and refusing to drop his intensity.
Flynn Fletcher continued to impress since switching to the number 50 jumper, whatever's in that number seems to be working.
Similarly, Brandon Fitzpatrick has made a smooth transition since coming back to the club and is showing his value week in, week out.
Hulk Holcombe was strong again, while young Jaydon Arnold put in another gutsy performance.
One of the few bright spots was up forward, where Ned McKeown continued his goal-scoring form with another five majors.
That takes his season tally to 88 goals, with one home-and-away game left.
The Bears take on Rennie next week, and with the red head machine needing 12 more to reach the ton and having kicked 14 against the Hoppers earlier this year, there’s still a big milestone within reach.
The focus now turns to finishing the regular season strong, building some momentum, and celebrating a few individual achievements along the way.
Let’s get around the Senior Lions this week and make the last home game of the season one to remember.
Go Bears.
Reserves
Tungamah 6.9: 45 def Katamatite 7.1: 43
From two’s day excess to Reserves exodus, as the Senior Bear’s selected half the Reserves team again.
Last week the V/line had to run two services to get the sides players to the game, this week they needed plenty of juniors to make up the numbers.
Still, the Reserves got the jump.
Four goals clear at half-time.
Rangi was in everything and was leading by example until his hammy snapped.
Velvet Prescott kept the scoreboard occupied with a couple of majors.
Gambi’s hammy came back from the dead Lazarus-style, from “amputate it” to “strap it” in under 72 hours.
His Osteo has filed for a restraining order.
Jezza Kelly must have had a WD-40 shower this week, with the body no longer looking rusted over and moving well.
The John Daly fitness regime gets results.
At the final break, Patches looked like puffing Billy and the Reserves were breathing harder than the big wolf did blowing the house down as Katty hit the lead deep in the last.
With the seconds running out, Gooba clunked one at 70m and pointed to the sky like he had Jesus on speed dial.
Proceeding to absolutely shank a bullet off the side of the boot, but clutch Doyle put his chest on the line collapsing a lung and shattering several ribs to mark the ball, unaffected he wandered back showing his intention to go for the big sticks.
With more ice coursing through his veins than Mount Gambier on a Saturday night, the young man started his approach as the final siren blew.
As he punted it true, he single handedly carried the lunch time legends across the line in his second game of the day.
A big-boy performance when it mattered.
Goals: A. Saunders 3, W. Prescott 2, A. Doyle
Best: T. Hayes, S. Kellock, J. Kelly, A. Saunders, M. Hughes, W. Prescott
Thirds
Tungamah 9.15: 69 def Katamatite 2.6: 18
It was a picture-perfect day for football, a far cry from last week as the Bears travelled to Katamatite.
The first quarter saw a tight tussle with both teams going forward on multiple occasions with both defensive lines holding strong, seeing Tungamah go into quarter time 15-points ahead.
In the second term, the Thirds onballers applied pressure and got faster with their ball movement which broadened the gap on the scoreboard.
As the game progressed, Tungamah used the ball well resulting in multiple shots at goal.
The backline provided very good drives whenever the ball entered the Bear’s defensive 50, with many forward attacks set up from half-back.
All in all, it was a great game by the Thirds against quality opposition.
With no game next week, the side is well poised as they head into finals.
Tungamah wish the Thirds well heading into their finals campaign and are sure they will do the club proud.
Goals: B. Grant 3, A. Doyle, X. Chessells, L. O’Brien, B. Doyle, J. Bamford, J. Walker.
Best: X. Chessells, L. O’Brien, B. Grant, A. Doyle, J. Prosser.

It was fantastic to see all the players getting a good touch of the ball.
The encouragement from the bench was commendable, and the pressure around the ball was excellent once again this week.
If the Fourths continue to show up and push their limits, they have the potential to make a deep run in the finals.

A Grade
Katamatite 54 def Tungamah 40
Tungamah faced a tough challenge on Saturday against a well-drilled Katamatite side. The match was a spirited contest, with Tungamah showing plenty of determination throughout.
From the first whistle, both sides came out with intensity, but it was Katamatite who managed to edge ahead early.
Tungamah matched them for effort, but a few small errors crept into their game, allowing Katamatite to capitalise and extend their lead slightly at each break.
All players worked tirelessly and creating plenty of opportunities, but lapses in execution saw turnovers at key moments.
Despite the growing deficit, the Bears never gave up.
The team continued to fight for every ball and maintained a positive attitude until the final siren.
Although the result didn’t go their way, the match showed plenty of promise, with patches of strong play and great teamwork on display.
With continued focus on reducing turnovers and tightening up decision-making under pressure, A Grade will be looking to bounce back strongly in the next round.
Congratulations to Madison Kelly on her A Grade debut.

B Grade
Tungamah 42 def Katamatite 36
A determined and composed team performance saw the Bears B Grade side claim a solid win against Katamatite.
B Grade kept their heads in the game, stayed connected, and showed what happens when trust and hard work come together on court.
The match was tight early, with both teams trading goals in the first quarter.
But from the second quarter on, B Grade started to take control.
Every possession mattered, and every player stepped up.
Players Player Brodie Gissing and Tahnee Pearce were again anchors in defence, showcasing immense ability of reading the play and disrupting Katamatite’s attack. The duo combined for 14 intercepts.
In goals, Lauren Miles was back in action and led the way with her high goaling accuracy, fed and backed up beautifully by the clever and composed Maddie Hocking and Kara Lawless.
Mariah Duffy was a standout through the midcourt.
Her four intercepts and tight one-on-one defence made a real impact.
She hustled hard, stayed composed, and played a smart, disciplined game across all four quarters.
Caity Whitelock brought energy, drive, and structure to the centre third.
She made strong leads, stayed vocal, and was crucial in transition.
Her work both in defence and setting up attack didn’t go unnoticed.
A massive shoutout to the rest of the B Grade squad who each played their role fantastically.

C Grade
Tungamah 16 def by Katamatite 32
On what can only be described as the most unnecessarily warm winter’s day, C Grade knew they were in for it.
The Bears faced a fierce Katamatite side who gave C Grade a serious run for their money.
Down the defensive end, Jorja, Bridie and Chels were nothing short of heroic. Overworked, underpaid, and borderline exploited.
If Tungamah had HR, they’d be filing reports.
Jade took on wing defence duties like a bird of prey in spring; swift, savage, and absolutely stealing souls.
Dan, Remi and Illa, like seasoned debt collectors, chased every ball like it owed them money.
They were relentless all game and never backed down from the chaos.
Charli stepped up in goal attack, lighting it up like a natural.
Bern went from "lovely day out" to "get me out of this sauna" real quick, but stayed red-hot in centre, grabbing tips and intercepts like they were on sale.
Issy, Rahni and Dim hustled through the attacking midcourt with grit, speed, and a sprinkle of chaos — giving it a red hot crack and keeping the Katty crew on their toes.
It wasn’t our day on the scoreboard, but C Grade marches on.
Their next stop is in the middle of nowhere to take on the Hoppers and close the curtain on the home-and-away season.
Eyes firmly on finals and maybe some ice packs.
Awards: Players Player – Jade, Jaycess – Dan, Intersport Wingates – Chelsea.

Tungamah 47 def Katamatite 15
What a change from last week.
Blue skies and sun greeted us for our match with Boosey rivals Katamatite.
C Reserve played with trust in each other and the ball flowed so much better. The defensive-end was again the sides rock, but this week C Reserve were able to link through the midcourt which the goalers finished off.
