Yarrawonga Mulwala 6/180 def Rutherglen United 4/178
The Under 16s Lakers had set Rutherglen a target of 181 from 37 overs. Kade Michael and Lucas Tonna opened the bowling and were economical.
Nate Sheridan took the first wicket in the 12th over thanks to a superb low catch to Jace Gove at midwicket. This was followed in the next over with wicketkeeper Will Murphy taking a catch off the bowling of Van Kreeck having Rutherglen 2/35.
Rutherglen then continued ticking the scoreboard over with a solid partnership of 124 before Lucas Eales took a strong catch off Murphy in the 34th over.
After 10 overs of keeping, Will Murphy bowled a fantastic spell of 1/15 from his 6 overs by consistently peppering yorkers to restrict the scoring from his end.
Kade Michael was given the ball for the last over with the Lakers still 12 runs in front.
The game came down to the last ball with Rutherglen needing 3 for the win.
Michael rose to the challenge and bowled straight and true to skittle the stumps giving the Lakers a 2-run victory.
Under 14s learn from two ‘dayer’
Yarrawonga Mulwala 10/42 def by City Colts 10/152.
What a crazy week it can be in cricket from superb bowling and fielding one week, to a learning day with the willow the next.
The young lads were a little outclassed in the batting department struggling to put partnerships together on a tricky Mulwala turf wicket, being all out in 16.3 overs.
The young Lakers have come away from their first 2 day match with plenty to work on.
These lessons will hold this young group in good stead for the weeks to come. The Under 14s will regroup this week at training and come out ready to go.
Under 12s locking of the horns
Yarrawonga Mulwala Bulls 5/76 def Yarrawonga Mulwala Rams 8/60.
Last Thursday afternoon, the club held the junior ‘Locking of the Horns’ clash between the two under 12 teams - the Rams and the Bulls.
In a close match, the teams displayed some quality junior cricket with both bat and ball. Many wickets fell throughout the tight contest and there were plenty of smiles on faces.
Approximately 200 families, friends and supporters came down for the match and another 175 enjoyed the livestream.
It was great to see people connecting off the field including senior A graders, supporters and parents all the way down to juniors, under 12s and beyond.
A special thank you to everyone behind the scenes who helped to organise the day.
Including coaching, scoring, umpiring, live streaming, scoreboard setup, BBQ duties and general operations.
A special mention to ‘Matches’ McCabe for preparing a wicket for the clash. The juniors are the club’s and communities’ future.
Thank you all for your support and contributions, and the club hope everyone had fun. Looking forward to the next ‘Locking of the Horns’!
Rams go down in local derby
Yarrawonga Mulwala Rams 8/60 def by Yarrawonga Mulwala Bulls 5/76.
The much anticipated ‘Locking of the Horns’ between the Under 12s Rams and Bulls was a great contest, with the Bulls claiming victory in the local derby.
Batting first, the Rams got off to a steady start, waiting patiently for the loose ball as the Bulls bowlers were finding their line and length.
Runs started to build through Finn Mitchell, Eamon Pickering and Luke Van Den Bosch. Batting out the innings, the Rams finished with a total of 60 on the board.
Needing to bowl well to defend their total, the Rams were on their toes in the field, throwing themselves around everywhere on the picturesque surrounds of Stan Hargreaves Oval.
The Rams created some chances early on against the strong Bulls outfit, however they were unable to capitalise.
Charlie Carlyle stood out with the ball claiming 2 wickets and was well supported by Hugo Bott, Zaine Rickhuss and Jordan Knight who each picked up one wicket.
The Bulls finished their innings with a score of 5/76.
The Rams players will be keen to bounce back from this week’s loss by working on their skills to be ready for the next match against City Colts.
