Our own James Willett shot the perfect score over the weekend of April 15 and 16. “This is the first time this score has been shot in the UK at a domestic event, so I believe I broke the British record in the Olympic Trap event,” an elated Willett told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“It was a large event where they had 21 squads of six shooters enter the event which made it larger than our national championships in Australia.”
The 27-year-old finished second place in the final after shooting 46/50 where GBR shooter Aaron Heading won the event with a 47/50. GBR shooter Nathan Hales came third in the event.
“I was stoked to have shot the perfect score in qualifying with the 125/125 as it is the second time I have managed to do it now with my first one being at the Acapulco World Cup in 2019,” Willett said.
“The competition here in the UK is strong with three of the Men’s Team having won international World Cup medals so it was great to be able to compete against some of the world’s best in the lead up to the next World Cup.”
He is now preparing for the France Grand Prix which will be held at the national range in Châteauroux where the 2024 Olympics will be held for shooting events.
The entry list comprises 38 squads of six shooters with many shooters from across the world to compete on the range before next year’s Olympics.
Willett is competing in Cairo, Egypt for the next ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) World Cup, from the May 2-4.
He emphasised the support of local sponsors Yarrawonga Toyota, CMCU and Kennedy Builders.
