While the Pigeons were still recovering from last week’s devastating loss of co-coach Laura Irvine through injury, this 4th placed team was again reshuffled and came together strongly against the 6th placed Tigers outfit.
Although the first quarter was evenly matched, the home team quickly asserted their dominance and continued to extend the lead until the final whistle.
The combination of experience in players such as Bec Carlyle and Caity O’Dwyer and versatility in the youngsters saw all players give 100 percent all over the court.
The handy fill-in of Laura Davis playing her 50th A grade game continued to showcase the depth of Pigeon’s netball, and everyone at the club wishes coach Laura a speedy and painless recovery.
Best: Bec Carlyle and Caitlin O’Dwyer.
B Grade
Yarrawonga 51 defeated Albury 46.
The top-placed B grade team was minus a couple of regular stars this week but were able to hold it together throughout their match against the 9th-placed Albury Tigers.
There’s no doubt it was a tough one, with multiple players from the C grade backing up for a second game.
Best on court Jayanna Sharp was again a dominant force in the last line of defence, taking multiple intercepts and rebounding strongly and versatile pocket-rocket Abbey Jones provided great stability in the forward line.
Although the Albury team refused to admit defeat, winning the second half, the Pigeons ended up with the premiership points.
Best: Jayanna Sharp and Abbey Jones.
C Grade
Yarrawonga 46 defeated Albury 34.
The C graders continued their winning ways this week with a 12-goal win over the 9th placed Tigers.
The score line fluctuated throughout each quarter break in this match and multiple positional changes were made but the consistency of players such as best on court Georgia Lawless and intercept machine Jenny Buerckner continues to ensure that there is a high volume of scoring opportunity.
Maddie Kennedy played a great game in the centre court this week and Tayla Bogle was again instrumental down both ends of the court.
In the end, it was a strong final term which saw a 12-goal win to the Pigeons.
Best: Georgia Lawless and Maddie Kennedy.
Under 16s
Yarrawonga 25 defeated by Albury 45.
Another tough one for the Under 16s this week, with the fast-starting Tigers going up by 13 goals in the first quarter.
Finding avenues to goal was tough throughout the match, despite the consistency and drive of best on court Chloe Wheaton and turnovers created by Tess Byrne.
This team has a lot to be proud of, continuing to improve upon their game each quarter and were successful in winning the final term.
If the girls can take this momentum into their coming games, there is no doubt that their first win won’t be far away.
Best: Chloe Wheaton and Tess Byrne.
