Yarrawonga Paddlers finish the year on a high

Up and coming paddlers Lily Weidgen and Ruby Stevens joined the adult mixed relay team both paddling the longer 24km legs helping the team to third place in the open relay event.

Early in the year all the girls performed extremely well at the Victorian sprint and school championships, and their achievements were recognised at the club’s AGM with Kristi Hardman and Nikita Carroll awarded the junior paddlers of the year, Zoe Schweda, Ruby Stevens and Lily Weidgen the encouragement awards, plus injured paddler Natalie Drew Cole was also awarded for her performances in 2020.

Next year looks like an exciting year for the girls with the arrival of five new high performance Plastex racing kayaks thanks to a Vic Health grant and other fundraising that will see members compete against the best paddlers from all over the state, with the sprint championships held on the last weekend of January.
