The School Sport Victoria Swimming State Championships had taken place last Thursday, with students from regions across the state to compete in the final qualifying event.

The finals for both primary and secondary schools raced over the day in individual events across four strokes, and team relays.
Five Yarrawonga students qualified to swim at the State Championships which was held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre in Albert Park.
Year 10 student Lara Angwin from Yarrawonga P-12 College, Year nine students Jackson Maxted, Isabelle Cummins and Alex Hawke from Sacred Heart College, and Grade six student Flynn Cox from Sacred Heart Primary School represented their schools proudly.
SSV Swimming State Championships qualification is a three stage process that started February, with intraschool swimming .
Swimmers then compete at District level, needing a top 2 finish to advance.
Both Lara Angwin and Jackson Maxted won District Age Champion at this event.
Regionals were held in March where only the first place winners move through to the State final, which each of the Yarrawonga students achieved.
Flynn Cox broke the 17 year Hume region record in his event, the boys 12/13yr 50 metre Breaststroke.
Grade 6 students at Sacred Heart Primary School cheered on classmate Flynn Cox as his raced went live.
Each of the five swimmers with three who currently train with the Yarrawonga Mulwala Swimming Club, performed to a high standard.
To qualify for an individual event is a great achievement with strong competition across the Hume Region.
The final which crowns the winners from all eight Melbourne and state districts from made the competition tough.
The swimmers should each be proud and congratulated for their efforts on the day.
Well done to Isabelle Cummins who took home a bronze medal in her 50m Breaststroke MC event at the State Championships.
