Son of John and Betty Butler (née Joel), both deceased, formerly of Mollymook and Kingsgrove. Older brother of Gregory and Paul. Former husband of Michaelle (née Thompson) (dec). Father of Joel, Nathan (dec), and Katie (dec).

Grandfather of Lachlan and Patrick Hicks, Cloudia, Ashton and Archer Campton. Great-grandfather of Felix and Tully Hicks.
