The $US196 million ($A275 million) deal, awarded to American company Electric Boat, was announced by the US government on Thursday.
Under the 2021 security deal, Australia will acquire nuclear-powered submarines with support from the UK and the US, alongside co-operation on military technology.
It will be funded by Australia and cover "support engineering, technical, design agent and design transfer activities" from the United States.
Australia has been promised at least three Virginia-class submarines from the US in the early 2030s, before a new fleet of vessels is built for delivery from the 2040s.
Under AUKUS, Australia eventually plans to build five submarines in South Australia, using US technology and parts made in Britain.
The US last year concluded a review of the AUKUS agreement aimed at ensuring "its long-term success" and "alignment with the president's 'America First' agenda".
Britain's Ministry of Defence said the partnership is expected to create more than 7000 jobs across the UK supply chain.
The MoD said the economic benefit is already being felt, with more than 3000 jobs across key UK sites created since July 2024, and 4400 construction roles expected over the coming years.
The partnership will also expand Britain's submarine fleet with up to 12 attack boats, with "continuous production delivering a new submarine every 18 months".
