Fine weather and record entries for Saturday’s triathlon events will ensure this weekend’s Yarrawonga Mulwala Multisport Festival is another huge success.
Now a world qualifying event for both the standard and Olympic distances this year’s triathlon will expose the unique cross border course, including a bridge run and a Lake Mulwala hugging circuit to many competitors from all over Australia.
The triathlon part of festival takes place on the Saturday afternoon from the Mulwala Waterski Club and the usual Splash and Dash fun runs will resume their normal format on Sunday morning on the Yarrawonga Foreshore near the slide.
The Sunday fun runs will also feature a corporate challenge that will be raising funds for the local hospital as part of the Yarrawonga Health’s Helping Hands initiative.
Organising committee, the local Sacred Heart’s Splash n Dash team, have been frantically putting final preparations together to ensure this year’s event will be even better than previous years.
Committee member Jared Loughnan said the event will attract more than 2,000 people including athletes, support crews and volunteers from all over Australia injecting more than $2 million into the local economy.
“Our aim is to capitalise on all the hard work that has been done in the past by Triathlon Victoria and Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism and make the event even bigger,” Jared said.
“Our partnership with Triathlon Victoria will see the event become more sustainable, attractive and rewarding for competitors, local businesses, residents and sponsors,” he said.
“With the support of Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism and the Mulwala Water Ski Club we have been able to make it more of a community festival and retain the Sunday fun runs from our original Splash and Dash event.
“By attracting World Qualification for the ITU World Championship alongside the Victorian State Series it will further place Yarrawonga Mulwala on the map. A significant achievement only awarded to several triathlons in Australia.
“Our registrations this year have been exceptional and the weather forecast is looking perfect. Although the triathlons are now closed for registrations people can still register for the fun runs on the day,” Jared said.
The committee are still looking for volunteers to help marshal at different points along the course on Saturday.
“If anyone or any group can assist we would welcome their help. We are mainly seeking volunteer for four hours on the Saturday afternoon. We just require people to marshal at different points to assist athletes along the course.” If you can help please ring Lynda White on 0407 432 756.
Remember that whilst race entries will be taken on the day the organisers encourage everyone to register prior at www.ymmf.com.au to avoid the queues on the day.”
