The post on the Kyabram Community and Learning Centre Facebook page saw nearly 30 local women comment positively in less than 24 hours.
The woman behind the initiative, Andrea Morgan, said since posting about creating a Women’s Shed in Kyabram she had received a stream flow of emails from locals expressing their interest.
“I’m a bit amazed,” she said. “It certainly got a bit of attraction all of a sudden, I’m pretty excited about it, that's for sure.”
Ms Morgan spoke with the KCLC and found out that the Men’s Shed members only use their facilities three days a week, leaving the other days and all evenings free.
She had been thinking about creating a similar type of group, and this opportunity gave her the idea to create a Women’s Shed instead of “reinventing the wheel”.
Ms Morgan said a meeting would be organised at the KCLC with prospective participants of the Women’s Shed to discuss the direction of the group, which would be “open to all suggestions”.
“We would love to hear from you to express your interest or to share some ideas and suggestions in forming a local Women’s Shed, formal name yet to be decided,” Ms Morgan wrote on the KCLC Facebook page.
And the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many women supporting the idea.
“Even just to hang a picture, how to find a stud wall, drill a proper hole and not rip off half your plaster, or to fix something else,” Ms Morgan said.
“It may even just start as simple fixing things that could lead to how to renovate things, build furniture, I don't know — it’s open to really what the participants would want to do.
“Because all those tools are there, and a lot of us ladies want to know how to use all those tools, that's where I'd see it heading. But I could be totally wrong.”
A Women’s Shed would fall under the umbrella of the KCLC.
