by Gus UnderwoodBATTING maestro Paul Newman will strip with a new club in a new competition when local cricket seasons gets under way on Saturday.The Kyabram sporting legend has committed to playing with Kyabram Cricket Club in the Cricket Shepparton competition after two decades with the Kyabram Fire Brigade Cricket Club.Newman is one of the region’s premier batsman and has made more runs than any Fire Brigade player in the top level of competition.He will be a huge boost for the young Kyabram side, which is looking to improve on its record of making finals in the past seasons but failing to reach the premiership showdown.Another new recruit will be Irish allrounder Aaron Gillespie, who is not expected to be available until round three. He has played at the top level in Ireland.Promising opening batsman Kyle Fitzgerald, who had a break from the game last season, is also expected to return to add more depth to the Kyabram batting line-up.Newman, Gillespie, Fitzgerald, skipper Kyle Mueller, Cade Mueller, Alec Young, Paul Parsons, Troy Thomson and the McLay bothers will form the backbone of what should be a capable Kyabram batting line-up.Kyabram travels to Tallygaroopna to meet Northerners in the opening one-day round on Saturday.
