Something different this week with the field contesting a two-person Ambrose and recording some very good scores along the way.

The best of those scores came from Michael Coyne and Rod Breen, who finished with an excellent nett score of 63.5 off a combined/adjusted handicap of 4.5.
Finishing two shots back were Daryl and Wil Harrison, who finished with nett 65.5 from a handicap of 3.5.
Leading the ball comp winners were John and Lynne Canavan (one of only three husband-wife teams in the field) with nett 67.5.
Other ball winners being Lawrie Casey and Peter Blackmore (not quite a husband-wife team) with 67.75, Brad Edwards and Frank Broucek (67.75), Paul Kuiper and Peter Mangan (nett 68), Jake Gascoyne and Kellan Robinson (nett 68.75) and Colin Ranigtonga and Ian Brown (also nett 68.75).
Nearest the pin trophy winners were Wil Harrison, Paul Pappin, and Jenni Bauerle on the 3rd; Paul Kuiper, Peter Blackmore, and Jenni Bauerle (12th); and Mick Coyne, the Firstea voucher on the 15th.
Tuesday’s Stableford event was played on freshly cored and sanded greens, and the club extends a big thank you to all who made themselves available to assist with completing this massive task over Sunday and Monday.
Someone who still enjoys a play in a good sandpit, Kevin Bauerle, really found the renovated greens to his liking, piling on 41 points as he posted a five-shot win in B-grade from Graeme Harrison with 36 points.
In A-grade, Daryl Harrison and Lawrie Casey both finished with 34 points, with the countback falling Daryl’s way as he posted another sub 80 score of 79 off the stick.
Albert Adams led the ball comp winners with 34 points, a list that also included Peter Sherman with 33 points, Mick Gallivan (33), and Kevin Humbert (33).
Balls on the par three holes were won by Lawrie Casey (A-grade, 3rd), Peter Blackmore (B-grade, 3rd), and Peter Sherman (Firstea voucher, 15th).
Laurie Radley won the ball for nearest second shot on the 9th.
This week’s event is everyone’s favourite, Par.
The main event on the following week will be on the grand final holiday Friday, which will be a 4BBB Stableford event with the usual 11.30am assembly.

Valley View women
A cold, strong wind greeted Valley View women for their Stableford round last Wednesday.
Gill Thorsen handled the conditions well to win with 35 points, closely followed by runner-up Von Morris on 34 points.
Jenni Bauerle was nearest the pin on the 15th and Tracey Wade won the Firstea voucher on the 3rd.
On Friday, we will welcome players for a GMGA Swaggers event, and then on September 28, our rescheduled Jewellery Day, sponsored by Kyabram’s Jeweller, will see GMGA players contest this annual event.
Parkland
In a top field of 65, Mal Williams provided the best performance of the day, which was sponsored by Jen’s Hens.
Mal carded 43 points, seven under the card to collect the men’s B-grade trophy.
Runner-up was Mark Hendy with 36 points.
David Kuiper won A-grade with 36 points while Dean Sellick on 36 points won C-grade.
Runner-up was Vaughan Moss with 36 points.
Faye Glover keeps on winning with 35 points in A-grade.
Rhonda Cox was the B-grade winner with 41 points.
Pam Spokes was runner-up with 40 points.
Pauline Laidlaw was the C-grade winner with 41 points.
Runner-up was Lorna Alchin on 39 points.
Ball winners were Noel Boyd, Mark Percy, Bryce Fraser (Ireland), Peter Ryan, Kayne Crompton, Di Bruhn, Donna Campbell, Terry Thomson, Mareza Bauerle, Geraldine Prendergast, and Lynne McLean.

The 5th went to Helen Drake, courtesy of Nu Shade Awnings and Blinds, and Peter Ryan was nearest on the 6th for the voucher from Firstea Cafe.
Mal Williams capped off a good day by having a birdie on the 16th, collecting the spoils courtesy of Intersport Bennetts.
45 golfers took to the course for Wednesday’s Men’s Stroke event, and there was plenty of excitement as players battled it out across the grades.
Sam Attardi produced a round of 71 off the stick, net 58, taking the honours in A-grade.
B-grade went to Steve Piggott, 67 gross, net 52.
Runner-up was Phil Tucker on 68-14-54.
Peter Ryan matched the low nett score of the day with 72 gross, net 52 to claim C-grade.
Runner-up was Richard Stockdale on 76-21-55.
Third was Ken Wildes with 75-18-57.
Ball winners were Mark Percy, Mick Sullivan, Mark Hendy, Mal Baker, Doug Cox, Vin Sleeth, Vaughan Moss, and Bryce Fraser.
Nearest the pins went to Sam Skilling on the 6th for the voucher from Firstea Cafe.
Mark Hendy was closest on the 18th for the voucher from Brett Cox Electrical.
Mark Percy was closest on the Clive Coventry Funerals 15th, and Cam Willis on the 9th for the voucher from Ky Pizza and Pasta.
Vin Sleeth was on the 1st and Bob Troy on the Ray’s Pond 14th.
Sunday was R U OK? Day with a good field.
Fay Glover again was a winner for the women with 36 points.
Runner-up was Geraldine Prendergast with 35 points.
Mick Crompton, with 41 points, won the men’s section while Geoff Berry was second with 35 points.
James Barker won the Calloway section with 36 points.
Amanda Barker with 32 points was second.
Nearest the pins went to Naomi Cartwright on the 9th, Vaughan Moss on the 18th, and Adrian Besim on the 1st.
Second shot on the 11th went to Jacob Cartwright for the men, while second shot for the women went to Lyn Berry on the 17th.
Ball winners were Lana McInnes, Naomi Cartwright, Kayne Crompton, Scott Woods, and Adam Quattrocchi.

Parkland women
We thank “Secretly Scrumptious” for their generous sponsorship for the stroke event held on Tuesday, September 8, where a field of 34 women participated.
It was a top performance by Denise Hee, who with a result of 66-17-49 nett took out the top honours in A-grade.
Next was Heather Gunstone as runner-up with 73-17-56 nett.
In B-grade it was the effort of Veronica Ryan that produced a win, with her score of 73-23-50 nett closely followed by Wendy Fulton, who finished with 76-25-51 nett to be named runner-up.
Jenny Cheong-Backway, who continues to show improvement, came in with the best nett score of the day to win C-grade with 84-42-42 nett, and shouldn’t be surprised if there is another deduction in her handicap next game.
Kyra Clarke was the runner-up in C-grade with 86-31-55 nett.
Ball recipients were Kathy Risstrom 54, Mary Elliott 54, Mareza Bauerle 56, and Lyn Bailey 56.
Nearest the pin on the ninth was won by Chris Kelly, while Heather Gunstone claimed the jackpot for nearest on the 18th with her second shot, and Wendy Fulton took home the Firstea voucher for nearest on the sixth.
The least number of putts, sponsored by Bakers Delight, were also counted in the competition, and was won by Denise Hee with 26 putts.
Merrigum Golf
Warm weather greeted Merrigum golfers on Saturday for Gary Eden’s three club event, with the added novelty of two holes on each green.
Having a choice of holes didn’t seem to aid most golfers’ putting though, with a number of players nearing or surpassing an average of two putts on each hole.
Gary put a lot of work into setting up the course, as well as sponsoring the day, and there was a good attendance by members to acknowledge not just the day, but all the work that Gary does for our club.
The course was also in sensational condition, so the challenge was to see who could make the right choice of clubs and have a little luck by putting approach shots near one of the two holes.
For the first time in probably months, not one but two players managed to better their handicaps, which goes to show many of us over-complicate the game of golf by having too many clubs to choose from.
Bruce Brown had an excellent round of 79-12-67 to win the day, his best round in quite a while, so he may decide to leave the 11 clubs he carries as ballast at home in future.
It was good to see the sponsor of the day get among the good scores too.
Gazbo was the runner-up with a round of 97-28-69, deservedly taking home a share of the prizes.
He has probably been one of the more consistent golfers over the winter period, having a few rounds where he has played close to his handicap, whereas most of us have been lucky to get within six or eight shots of doing so.
Michael Doherty finished among the prizes, in third place with a round of 97-22-75.
Hopefully we might see a bit more of Mick on the course with the end of the football-netball season on the weekend.
Nearest the pins were won by Craig Doherty on the sixth, Mick Poulton on the ninth (good to have Mick back after a couple of months overseas), Michael Doherty on the 12th, and Tommy Ladhams on the 14th.
The traditional least putts was won by Andrew Wood with 26, while there was also a second putting challenge, a so-called super putt on each hole.
Players placed the ball beside the hole they had holed out in first, and had one chance to putt into the second hole.
This was won by Simon Doherty, who managed to sink seven super putts.
Thanks to Gary not only for sponsoring the day, but all the work you do for the club. It was a great day.
This coming Saturday’s event is stroke for the Privilege Cup and a place in the next Tiger Cup play-off.
This is a week earlier than usual because of the AFL grand final the following week.
Kyabram Pigeon Club
A triple bill of racing this week at Kyabram Pigeon club with races held from Ivanhoe, NSW and Barwon Heads.
The Young Bird Derby from Ivanhoe saw C, R and D Robb take the win with a rapid 1504.6 metres per minute velocity.
Andrew Williamson and Ray and Roza Armstrong rounded out the podium, all three winners hailing from Echuca.
Also from Ivanhoe, the club held a five bird special, with the Robbs also taking the win at a rate of 1494.6 mpm.
Williamson again finished second, but Troy Schwenke edged his way into the top three.
A third event on September 12 was the Barwon Heads open, the club mixing up its route by heading South instead of north.
Moama’s M and P Racing’s birds finished the fastest, logging 1018.70 mpm, while Kyabram’s Gary Beavis was second, and Shepparton’s Geoff Parker third.
