Charity golf raises $1,700

The aim by locals Bernadette Skinner and Isabelle Warren, along with Isabelle’s daughter Elli to raise $10,500 for the Breast Cancer Foundation and qualify to embark on their charity hike in central Australia received a major boost on April 3.

A twilight charity Ambrose golf competition was played with 48 players taking to the nine-hole Blue Course at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort.

Players loved the special team event where all four players had to have at least two tee shots used in the team’s score. A delicious barbecue on the Green terrace was also enjoyed by the players.

The event raised $1700 which means ‘Detta’, ‘Iss’ and Elli have about $3000 to raise before they set off on their 223km Larapinta Trail east of Alice Springs over five days in June.

The two star walkers and runners organised an excellent event, with Iss in full swing behind the barbecue controls, Detta making a big speech and Elli monitoring activities with a basket of goodies.

Detta expressed appreciation to all who contributed to a very successful fundraiser.

The winning golf team comprised Kaye Reeves, David Retallick, Michael Spring and Todd Le Grand. Runners-up consisted of Clint Eddy, Leigh Thomas, Tim Peacock and reigning club champion Jay Ar Martin. Wendy Nunn was a happy raffle winner. In his pink-coloured golf shirt, Todd was judged best dressed golfer for the breast cancer fundraiser.

The next fundraiser is a High Tea at Belle’s Café Yarrawonga on Mother’ Day.
