GV Health is the only major regional public health service in Victoria without a fully integrated cancer centre. For too long, people in our community have had to travel to Melbourne and elsewhere outside our region for cancer treatment.
GV Health serves a catchment of over 250,000 people, and these additional services will allow more patients to receive the treatment and support they need closer to home.
Undergoing cancer treatment is a challenge in itself. Patients and their families shouldn’t have to deal with the additional pressure of travel, accommodation costs and time away from their support network.
I want to acknowledge the hard work of the GV Health Foundation, led by Stephen Merrylees and Amy De Paola, for their advocacy for the centre. Their determination, alongside the generous support of the Peter and Maria Copulos Foundation and our community, has been instrumental in bringing this project closer to reality.
I’m committed to delivering the priorities of the Shepparton District, and I’m fighting hard to make sure our community gets the investment it deserves.
Quality healthcare closer to home should be non-negotiable. A Liberal and Nationals government will deliver this centre so more people across our region can focus on their treatment and recovery, with family and friends nearby.
