A 46-year-old man was arrested at Parramatta Police Station on Tuesday after an investigation by State Crime Command's Homicide Squad.
He was charged with publishing false and misleading material to obtain advantage and false representation, resulting in the police investigation.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on November 18.
Two gunmen opened fire on a Chanukah by the Sea Jewish event held at Bondi Beach in Sydney on December 14, 2025, killing 15 people and injuring dozens.
The incident shocked the nation, had a devastating impact on the local Jewish community and prompted the Royal Commission on Anti-Semitism and Social Cohesion.
Executive Council of Australian Jewry's head Alex Ryvchin described the alleged fraud as despicable.
"To use police resources when we need police investigating matters and keeping us safe nearly a year on, when we still have security challenges in the (Jewish) community and wider society... is something despicable and we all have to condemn it," he told Nine's Today on Wednesday.
One of the gunmen, 50-year-old Sajid Akram, was shot dead at the scene while his 24-year-old son Naveed Akram was injured and charged. He remains before the courts.
Judge Karen Stafford granted an application by prosecutors on Wednesday to adjourn Akram's charge certification, listing 78 charges, until February 24, with more time needed to consult victims.
Detectives from the Joint Counter Terrorism Team took carriage of the investigation into the attack with more than 1500 witness statements and communications between the gunmen gathered by prosecutors, a court heard on Wednesday.
The judge said the extension granted was in the interest of justice.
"Noting we are about to move into the period where people celebrate holidays and festivals, the consultation period will be extensive," Judge Stafford said.
