The Cod Classic celebrates the opening of Cod Season and is an iconic event on the Australian fishing calendar bringing with it great economic benefit to the community.
Event organiser Tony Bennett expects the event to be one of the biggest of its 20-year history.
“All indications are we will have around 3,000 entries.
“The 10 boating packages and the event’s 20th anniversary has worked to attract entries.” Tony said.
The weather forecast is also shaping up well with mid to late 20-degree days forecasted.
“The weather is looking magic. With great weather we expect the usual 900 plus registrations to come in on the weekend on top of the 2,200 registrations we already have.”
Tony said after the completion of this year’s event a staggering total of 120 boating packages will have been given away through the Cod Classic.
“It’s been an amazing event for fishing enthusiasts but even better for the towns economically and the Mulwala Football Netball Club,” Tony added.
Other fantastic prizes up for grabs at the event include the chance to spend 30 seconds in a cash grab machine, a list of major goods too long to mention, along with 1000 plus minor lucky door prizes.
Designed for the family with all levels of fishing skills catered for, everybody has a chance of winning one of the many great prizes on offer, whether fishing from boat or bank, using either bait or lures.
Entry fee is $95 prepaid or $100 on the weekend for adults and $50 for juniors which includes four meals, a souvenir stubby holder, a free ticket in major boat raffle, Wilson Slickback Lure and Bassman Spinnerbait (for the kids), entry into 1000’s of lucky door prize draws and the promise of a great weekend.
Also being run in conjunction with the Cod Classic is the “Native Watercraft” Australian Canoe & Kayak Cod Fishing Championships.
Entering its ninth year, this event caters for the new breed of fisherman who chose to fish from either a canoe and kayak choosing paddle and peddle over petrol and power.
The Fishing & Outdoors expo will also be a main feature at Mulwala’s Lonsdale Reserve with the chance to grab a bargain not to be missed.
