Emcee Tim Nelson welcomed residents both current and former, local identities, community leaders and political representatives to honour Kyabram’s rich history across generations.
“Tonight we celebrate what Kyabram was like, what Kyabram is today, and what Kyabram will be in the future,” he said.
“While everyone in this room was not here 150 years ago, there are plenty of people in this room who helped shape what it was, and plenty of people who are going to shape Kyabram for the future.”
After Mr Nelson reflected on historical milestones and paid tribute to local icons — including veteran sports journalist Gus Underwood and historian Eileen Sullivan — the night's highlight came when former mayors Frank Findlay, Clive Toms, Chris Salter, John Neale, and John Elborough took the stage, each sharing memories of Kyabram and reflections from their time in office.
All of which sparked plenty of nostalgia and set a celebratory tone for the rest of Kyabram's milestone year as the anniversary festivities continue at the Kyabram Recreation Reserve on Friday, October 23, from 5.30pm for the Big Birthday Bash.
