Boggy day at Whorouly for girls

Under 14s

United 0.0 defeated by Wodonga Raiders 11.11.77

Best: Amelie Thompson, Hannah Loughnan, Angela Skipper, Evelyn Niedzwiedzki, Ella Nixon, Isabella Klein.

This game was always going to be a tough one against the competition leaders.

Despite only having 15 of our players available the girls showed great determination and ‘loved’ playing on a boggy Whorouly ground.

United put a lot of pressure on the Wodonga Raiders players all game which limited their ability to score freely.

The backline stood up with Amelie Thompson taking some great ‘goal saving’ marks.

Ella Nixon, Hannah Loughnan, Isabella Klein and Ella Pund were defiant in not letting the ball pass into the Raider’s goal square.

Angie Skipper played her best game of the year not afraid to take on her opponents despite being one of the smallest players on the ground.

Evelyn Niedzwiedzki showed her versatility and how much she has improved all year with some confident movement of the ball.

All the girls tackling was a highlight of the game along with their determination to not let Raiders dominate the game.

The coaches moved all the girls around in various positions on Sunday and they all stood up to the task.

Well done girls.

Under 17s

United 9.11.65 defeated Wodonga Raiders 4.3.27

Goals: Taylah Power 4, Ella Bradley 2, Samantha Peppler 1, Madison Ibrahim 1, Mackenzie Winnell 1.

Best: Arana Benne Keeble, Matilda Lyons, Taylah Power, Mackenzie Winnell, Samantha Peppler, Tash Wilson.

This was a great win by the Under 17s, but more so on how the girls went about it.

Despite slippery conditions United were determined for a good win after a couple of weeks off.

Arana Benne Keeble, Sophie Boyle and the rest of the back line were tight and determined all game.

The team focus was on first options and linking up throughout.

This focus allowed for some great transitions down the ground, leading to United’s forwards getting more time at goal.

Taylah Power lead the forward line leading from the front and kicking four goals.

The girls will now enjoy a team camp together in Yarrawonga before playing Wangaratta Rovers at the JC Lowe Oval

Open Women’s

United 0.0.0 defeated by Wodonga Raiders 4.22.46

Best: Claire Hibbert, Annie Robilliard, Layne Parker, Sally Doolette, Madison Duffy, Brodie McMonigle.

The Open Women’s team contested superbly against the league leaders Wodonga Raiders on a heavy ground at Whorouly.

Despite several players being out, the girls rose to the challenge. Special mention to Brodie McManigle who played after her 18th birthday celebrations and Amy Nicklaus who was severely hampered by a cold.

Two of Yarrawonga’s leaders, Claire Hibbert and Annie Robillard played their best games for the year.  Claire contested everything at centre half back and Annie rucked tirelessly all day.

It was great to have Layne Parker back and she never gave up repelling attacks and laying tackles.

Sally Dollette was inspirational in the backline making a contest at every opportunity and charging out of attack to repel the ball forward.

Maddie Duffy is getting better with every week and her possessions under pressure were the highlights of her game.
