With the worst of the wet weather behind us, tourist numbers have soared, especially immediately after Christmas, with Yarrawonga Mulwala being almost fully booked accommodation-wise.

“It seems to be fully booked. Our records show accommodation commissions to be the best we’ve ever had,” Yarrawonga Mulwala Visitor Information Centre Executive Officer Noel Wright told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“There have been good bookings for the (Lake Mulwala cruise boats) Cumberoona and Paradise Queen.
“Visitors have also enquired about the golf club’s cinema and the new light show at the ski club. And of course the three licensed clubs always attract a lot of interest.”
You can never too young or too old to join the ski team. Pictured is Ava Britt with dad Warren and Abbey Hicks with Isla New performing in the Mulwala Water Ski Club lagoon.

Belmore Street Yarrawonga was often bumper-to-bumper with cars at times - the town’s main street resembling a mini, busy West Gate Bridge Melbourne traffic creep. Local shops were heavily patronised.
The popular flyboard entertains the crowd.

Golf numbers have been strong at both our championship golf courses. “Golf numbers have been very solid, despite the fact there’s been no camping along the river,” head professional Evan Droop at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort’s 45-hole course said.
“The Murray course was back in action from Saturday December 17 and numbers certainly increased from that date. Golfers have been hitting off at 6.00am sharp every day.”
The Murray course resumption of course followed the massive amount of water on the course. The course looks spectacular again thanks to the hard work of groundstaff and volunteers.
It has also been full on at Black Bull Golf Club’s 18-hole course, with players beating the heat by hitting off early when the temperatures climb into the 30s.
“We’ve had 160 players a day, with players hitting off from 5.30am,” teaching professional at the Silverwoods course Mal McKenna said.
Mulwala Water Ski Club CEO Peter Duncan said the tourism season has been fantastic to date, with figures “way up on last season” due to the ski shows and expanded or new assets proving so popular.
“The deck’s been very good, the laser light show has been great and the children’s playground has also proved very popular,” he said of the club’s expanded deck, the new laser light show and the children’s playground, all occurring in 2022.
“We’ve had big nights. The deck and the big screen have been really popular.”
Parks, including Yarrawonga Holiday Park, have been fully booked. Another big event – the first of its type in three years due to Covid – was the rodeo at Bundalong where hundreds flocked on December 28 (see separate story Page 8).
The additional several thousands of tourists over the Christmas/New Year period are a big boost to the local economy.
