The by-election is triggered by Sussan Ley’s intention to resign as the Member for Farrer after being ousted by Angus Taylor as leader of the Liberal Party of Australia.
Mr Clancy says he will continue serving the community in the New South Wales Parliament.
“This has not been a decision taken lightly; it has involved discussions with my family and reflection on where I can best serve the people of Albury and our region,” Mr Clancy said.
“Family considerations, together with my commitment to the work already underway in
NSW, has guided this decision.“
Mr Clancy says there is still significant work still to be done at state level, from strengthening local health services and ensuring the successful delivery of the Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital redevelopment, to advancing skills, workforce reforms and supporting regional infrastructure.
“The job is far from finished; serving the people of Albury in the NSW Parliament is both a privilege and a responsibility I take seriously,” he said.
“I remain fully committed to advocating for our community and delivering practical outcomes that strengthen our region’s future.
“I look forward to continuing this work.”
