Demo Derby thrills the show crowd

The Deniliquin Show's Demolition Derby made history with its first all-female heat on Saturday night, adding a thrilling new dimension to the already popular event.

The women’s event proved so popular it's set to become a regular feature for future shows.

Taking honours for the women on Saturday night was Paige Doherty, with Ayla Nganenko second and Courtney Osmond in third.

Not to be overshadowed, the men revved up the excitement.

They delivered a spectacular show as they smashed and crashed their way through the heat, leaving a trail of wrecked vehicles in their wake.

Claiming the top prize was Stu Tangey, with last year’s winner Craig Woolston coming in second.

Third was Corey Gregson.

The show committee thanked the emergency services on stand by to mitigate any potential issues.

The Deniliquin VRA - Resue Squad and NSW Rural Fire Service volunteers were called on to stamp out a blaze or two, but there were no injuries on the night.
