Emergency Go Pack! bags for NDIS participants

National Disability Insurance Scheme participants in Gannawarra Shire will benefit from a new emergency preparedness initiative, with free Go Pack! bags being distributed to eligible residents.

Gannawarra Shire Council has partnered with Northern District Community Health, shire neighbourhood houses, Vivid and Community Living and Respite Services to deliver the program.

The green bags are designed to store essential items needed during an emergency evacuation.

“People with disability experience greater risks to their safety and health during emergencies and natural disasters compared to the general population,” council chief executive Geoff Rollinson said.

Each bag includes a First 72 hours flyer, an emergency plan worksheet, a checklist fridge magnet and a water bottle.

Participants are encouraged to add medications, documents, torches and personal care items.
