“Which ones are open?” she asked at council’s latest monthly meeting on April 21. “Can we have an A-Frame out the front? Not everyone has social media.” Mayor Pat Bourke agreed with the idea.
Council’s director engineering services Steve Carmichael said that the one toilet block in all the northern end towns or villages of Federation Council area.
Several public toilets have been closed, especially in Corowa and Mulwala. “We will certainly keep at least one toilet open, making sure it is open on the main truck routes covering Howlong, Corowa and Mulwala,” Mr Carmichael said.
Council will hopefully make people feel more comfortable going for a walk along the path towards the Corowa Golf Club, with the opening up of the toilet at Lions Park and/or Morris Park.
Cr Fred Longmire raised the specific locations of this “popular path”. “I’ll take it on board,” Mr Carmichael said.
Deputy Mayor Shaun Whitechurch touched on the subject earlier in the agenda and agreed with Cr Longmire’s specified locations. “A lot of people use that path,” Cr Whitechurch said.
“Which park would you suggest? Mayor Bourke asked. “The closest one to you at the time,” the deputy mayor quipped.
Council’s General Manager Adrian Butler said it was a matter of “getting the right balance” as to which council facilities should be open.
He said the State and Federal Governments are looking at future relaxation of more facilities, including playgrounds, and referred to expectations of more facilities becoming open by communities.
“The expectations are going to be there,” Mr Butler said.
