Councillor Pat Bourke has requested that the Council explore opportunities with the Minister for Local Government to guarantee representation for residents of the former Urana Shire area within the merged Federation Council.
Cr Bourke said that if a guarantee was not possible, then constituents in the former Urana Shire wanted the opportunity to hold a referendum to demerge and return to their original boundaries.
Initial discussion included the possibility of a referendum for demerger but Cr Bourke cold not secure a seconder for the motion, which was amended.
The final motion agreed to seek a meeting with the Minister for Local Government, with the mayor, general manager and Cr Bourke to discuss the concerns around representation for the former Urana Shire area of Federation Council.
The resolution was carried however Cr Bourke said that if a guarantee of representation could not be secured from the Minister, the potential next step was to hold a referendum to consider demerging.
Ball Park Caravan Park
An update on the Ball Park Caravan Park was originally listed on the agenda, but Council deferred the item to a closed session due to the commercial and confidential nature of information to be discussed.
In the closed session, Council noted a letter from Reflections Holiday Parks and granted an extension to submit a final offer regarding the redevelopment and management of the park.
This offer is expected to be submitted at an Extraordinary Meeting of Council scheduled for March 10, 2026.
Corowa Aerodrome
A service review of Corowa Aerodrome has been delayed due to ongoing finalisation of the financial modelling by council staff.
Council also resolved to consider exploring the potential for surplus land surrounding the aerodrome as part of its service review.
