Flood watch issued

The SES said moderate to locally heavy rainfall associated with an approaching trough and developing low was possible from Thursday across parts of north-east Victoria, Gippsland and Central Victoria.

This rainfall has the potential to cause minor to moderate flooding from Friday and into the weekend, the SES said.

Catchments are moderately wet in these areas and may respond quickly to rainfall.

According to the SES, the location, intensity, and timing of this forecast rainfall is highly uncertain, and the rainfall focus may shift to other areas within the state as this event progresses.

The SES said catchments likely to be affected include the Seven and Castle Creeks, as well as the Goulburn River upstream of Lake Eildon, from Eildon to Seymour, and downstream of Seymour.

Other catchments likely to be affected are Mitchell River, Avon River, Macalister River, Thomson River, Latrobe River, Traralgon Creek, Bunyip River and Dandenong Creek, Yarra River upstream of Warrandyte, Upper Murray and Mitta Mitta Rivers, Kiewa River, Ovens and King Rivers, Loddon River and Avoca River.

Caravan parks and camping grounds may be flooded, along with areas around rivers and streams.
