Stanhope’s Margaret and Andrew West have been through a lot since they tied the knot in 1951.
The couple said sense of humour and ability to get past their differences was the reason for their long, happy relationship.
They will reach their 65th wedding anniversary on September 11 and say mutual support is the key to a successful relationship.
“Sometimes we have arguments with each other, but it’s important to get over those things,” Mr West said.

Shooter on target across the world
The United States and Ireland are some of the places competitive shooter Steve Atkins has visited lately.
The 54-year-old shooter has been collecting trophies at international competitions.
A Tongala local, Atkins visited Banagher, Ireland in July to compete as part of the Australian Open Down The Line Team.
He finished the competition in 12th position out of 450 shooters.

Angelo’s mar-vellous catch of the century
Kyabram plumber Angelo Demasi won’t forget his first deep-sea fishing venture in a hurry.
The reason is that 108kg striped marlin he is proudly holding aloft in the photo above.
Angelo resisted an offer of $1000 when he pulled the monster aboard after an hour-long tussle on a chartered fishing tour near Montague Island off Narooma on the NSW south coast.
Instead of picking up $1000 for his troubles, Angelo opted to spend $800 to have the fish mounted.

Tavis earns Big V
Rushworth Secondary College student Tavis Perry is the envy of his footballing schoolmates this week.
Today he is off to Melbourne to play in the Victorian countryside in the under-16 National junior football championships.
Tavis clinched a spot in the 25-player squad last Sunday when the final pruning took place after the team had played a practice match against the Melbourne metropolitan side.
But Tavis had to spend a restless Saturday night in Melbourne before he knew he was finally in the team.

It’s Super Cooper’s Medal
Tatura’s Super Cooper — rover Gary Cooper — received an early 20th birthday present on Sunday night ... the 1976 Morrison Medal, symbol of the best-and-fairest footballer in the GVL.
Cooper, with 20 votes, won the medal by a vote from dual medallist, Lemnos coach Norm Smith, to carry on a family tradition.
Cooper’s uncle, the late Jeff Cooper, won the coveted award twice, in 1958 and 1961, while establishing himself as a league and Kyabram “immortal”.

Checkout stars
Two members of Fitzgeralds Big Star Supermarket in Kyabram did extremely well in the checkout contest conducted in Melbourne at the weekend.
The Victorian Checkout of the Year Quest was held at the Grocery Convention at the Exhibition Buildings on Sunday.
Sue Ferguson and Nola Rouvray both qualified by ringing up the correct totals.
Sue finished in top 33 and received a diploma for efficiency and Nola finished in the top 90.
