Yarrawonga’s Belmore Street/ Piper Street roundabout area was packed with football and netball supporters, many in club colours last Friday at 12.30pm.
The hundreds of people wished Yarrawonga’s senior football team, and netball’s B and C Grades, all the best before their grand-final appearances last Sunday at Lavington Sportsground.
The big crowd also applauded Mulwala’s senior football team on their Murray league premiership the previous Saturday and Rennie on their three flags in Under 13s, 15s and 17s netball two Saturdays ago.
It was an impressive police-led street parade, with six mighty solid tractors immediately behind the Yarrawonga Police vehicle.
Spectacular boats followed with Mulwala’s 2023 on-field coach and O’Dwyer Medallist Jackson Gash and player Dylan McNamara holding the premiership cup.
Yarrawonga netballers loved their boat ride, with B Grade coach Bridget Cassar congratulating all premiers thus far and wishing Yarrawonga’s netballers and footballers good luck for their grand-finals.
And the Pigeons loved hearing a slightly revised cricket song belting out: ‘C’mon Pigeons C’mon’.
Bridget was interviewed by Pigeons member Rob Clarke who also ascertained senior football coach Steve Johnson’s thoughts on the footy grand-final and the parade.
“Hopefully the hot weather tires out the Tigers,” he said. “We thank everyone for coming here today and I wish all players and supporters all the best for our grand-finals.”
Yarrawonga Football Netball Club President Ross Mulquiney was pleased with the parade.
“It was a fantastic turnout,” he said.
“It was great see everyone come along and celebrate with the clubs on their successful years.”
