In wet and wintery conditions Berrigan had the advantage of the breeze and had a 21/5 inside 50 advantage but were only able to kick 2 goals to 1.

It was strong defence from Wolfe and McCabe who was a tackling machine that kept the pressure on the Saints forwards to close down space.

Down by 8 points the Hoppers were unable to take advantage of the breeze in term 2 as Berrigan kicked the only goal and stretched the lead to 17.

But as darkness closed in the Hopper light shone and a 5 goal to none third term was the matchwinner.

Strawhorn with a couple, Hargreaves with mark of the year, it was a double hanger up there and got the extra push up and then went back and kicked the goal saw the Hoppers grab a match winning 14 point break.

In the darkest last term seen for years with the fork lightning checking in Mangan and Sudholz kept presenting and contesting as the Hoppers kicked the only goal and win by 19.

Strawhorn and Hargreaves kicked 2 goals each.

Best was Sudholz, Mangan and Bigger with an incentive to Wolfe.

Rennie are now in fourth position.

Reserves

Berrigan 7.4.46 defeated Rennie 1.6.12.

In the top of the table clash the Hoppers went down by 34 points.

The game was decided in the first term as the Hoppers dominated the inside 50s but kicked 5 points whilst the Saints in a rare foray forward snagged a goal.

The locals were then able to control the game as the Hoppers had few winners across the ground. The standard has now been set which Rennie needs to aspire towards.
