The much-loved annual Lake Mulwala Rod Run is set to deliver another outstanding weekend, with registration on Friday at Mulwala Water Ski Club from 3.00pm to 8.00pm and on Saturday morning.
Michael Greche of Northern Suburbs Street Rods (NSSR) said this year’s entries will be about 100 more than last year. “We will have in the high 500s – we already have an extra 100 entries at this stage compared to last year,” he told the Yarrawonga Chronicle last Friday.
“We’ll have a cruise to Tungamah on Friday, leaving at 11.00am, a poker run to Corowa Rutherglen on Saturday leaving at 11.00am, in Belmore Street from 4.00pm to 10.00pm Saturday and at J C Lowe Oval with all the hot rods from 9.00am Sunday. Sunday will be a gold coin donation entry with all proceeds going to charity; there will be an auction at midday with all donations from locals.”
Locals and visitors will see hot rods of all colours of car-makes up to the year 1975. And locals will have the opportunity to ride in these beaut hot rods – there will be designated pick up and drop off points. Last year’s rides were loved by locals – especially children.
“We see this event as a family friendly event,” Mick said.
“The police and us work closely together to make this event, an alcohol-free event, as good as possible for everyone. Police will be patrolling so everyone is warned.”
The poster car featured on this year’s memorabilia by the NSSR were two hot rods owned by Larry O’Toole who has sadly passed away. Larry was a wonderful supported of the NSSR club.
NSSR club members have greatly appreciated the warm welcome provided to them by local residents and visitors. “Our members are simply ecstatic with the reception by locals,” Mick said.
“We say a huge thank you to Tourism, Moira Shire, the Ski Club, Yarrawonga Football Netball Club’s Ross Mulquiney and Shaun Driscoll from the Yarrawonga Holiday Park. “Nothing would be achieved without these people.”
Police warning
Yarrawonga Police are also looking forward to supporting the Lake Mulwala Rod Run and wish to remind locals, visitors and entrants that Belmore Street is a Designated Alcohol Free Area as per the Moira Shire Local Laws.
The consumption and possession of alcohol in Belmore Street is prohibited unless inside a licensed premises.
Any person found over the weekend to be consuming or possessing alcohol on Belmore Street will face a fine imposed by police of up to $300.
Police found that there was a high disregard for this law last year, which led to a number of anti-social and violent incidents.
This year Yarrawonga Police will hold a zero tolerance for alcohol consumption and will be in force throughout the whole weekend.
