The Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee (AIAC) will provide feedback, advice and guidance to council on supporting and improving this access.
Mayor Frank Crawley said the council is now looking for a diverse range of representatives from across the council area to make up committee membership.
“We’re looking for local people with lived experience of disability to advise council on how we can improve access to, and inclusion in Council’s services, facilities and programs,” Cr Crawley said.
“This might be people living with a disability, carers or those who work in the disability sector.
"Once established, we’ll be looking to the committee to help us develop and implement policies, procedures, planning and programming to increase community inclusion outcomes.”
Key responsibilities for committee members will include advising on implementing the council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP), recommending ways to enhance accessibility in council-owned buildings and infrastructure, and providing insights on how services, public programs and events can become more inclusive.
The committee will also play a vital role in advising on the accessibility of the council’s communication activities, such as publications, websites and social media.
Those interested in being on the committee can submit an expression of interest to the council by March 15.
Further information on the committee and how to submit an EOI can be found on the council’s website.
Those who require assistance can contact council’s economic development team on 1300 087 004, who will be available to guide interested applicants through the process.
“The Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee is a great way for people to represent the needs of the Murray River Council community,” Cr Crawley said.
“If you’d like to help us create a more inclusive community, we encourage you to submit an EOI.”
