Kids build mini replica of neighbouring water tower

Standing at just a metre tall, the miniature tower features cardboard scaffolding, a working crane and even tiny tradesmen complete with their own hard hats.

The water tower site, sitting right next door to the centre, became a genuine learning opportunity for the group. The children created drawings of the scene and even ventured outside for a closer look at a real worksite in action.

Room leader Sam Leorke said the idea to create a replica had come from the curiosity of the kids.

She said a group of them could usually be found lined up along the fence, eyes fixed on the worksite.

So when the children proposed building their own, they jumped at the chance.

Ms Leorke said the children had been learning valuable lessons about safety, community connection and the history of the water tower itself.

The real water tower has been in the process of being demolished since June 9, with works expected to be wrapped up by late November.
