The Cobram Lions Club celebrated another successful year of service at its 61st annual changeover dinner, held at the Boosey Creek Tavern on Tuesday, June 23, where members reflected on the past 12 months and welcomed in a new committee.

Over the past year, the club has raised $40,000 for the local community, with major fundraising efforts supporting people affected by the Yarroweyah fires and dialysis services in Cobram.
Outgoing president Ron Simon said one of the year's biggest highlights was bringing the Melbourne Cup to Cobram.
“The day was the result of several months of hard work by our committee. Thank you to Janet, Olga and Glynis,” he said.
“The day resulted in us being able to put $13,400 into a term deposit earmarked for dialysis services at Cobram Hospital and won for Cobram Lions the Moira Shire Event of the Year Award at the Australia Day Awards.”
Mr Simon said the club also rallied behind the community following the devastating January Yarroweyah fires.

“We ran three shifts a day over a week raising money while also checking on victim needs and paying out over $10,000 in quick response grants,” Mr Simon said.
“Work continued with other community groups and Moira Shire to distribute the final funds in mid-June.”
Another highlight was the club's $500 donation to Cobram student Emma Corrin, who will represent Australia at the Canoe Marathon Championships in Argentina later this year.
Club member Olga Parry was presented with the 2025 John Artavilla Memorial President's Award, an honour established during the club's 60th Charter Anniversary in memory of Lion John Artavilla.
The award is presented annually by the outgoing president to recognise the contribution of a current member.

Incoming president Keith Parry said he was looking forward to another productive year.
“Our fundraising efforts will continue with the Cobram Lions Market, Mitre 10 barbecue, Deni Ute Muster and of course cakes and raffles,” he said.
“Working together as a team, we will support all the community projects currently in place, including our youth programs, art show, eyesight and shower programs as well as new projects as they arise.
“Successful projects and fundraising relies on the involvement of all members, and my aim for next year is to encourage members to take an active role in the planning and implementing of these activities.”
