Yarrawonga man killed by fallen tree branch

The man is yet to be formally identified.

Police responded to the death of a 45-year old Yarrawonga man on the Loop Track at Yarrawonga Regional Park last night.

Police said a 45-year-old Yarrawonga man was killed by a large fallen tree branch while his wife and teenage son were left injured around 7:10pm.

Emergency services were called to a camping area at Loop Track to reports a large tree branch had fallen onto the moving vehicle during a significant weather event at the time.

Sergeant Shaun Hillier of Wangaratta Highway Patrol said at media briefing on Wednesday that the 45-year-old along with his family were driving out of Loop Track attempting to escape the storm.

The driver, a man who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The teenage boy was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the woman was taken to hospital for observation.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined, and police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
