Additional alcohol free zones are likely to be established in Finley, Tocumwal, Berrigan and Barooga.
The issue was considered by Berrigan Shire Council at its October meeting.
Councillors were advised that at present, council has issued orders prohibiting the consumption of alcohol in two places: Memorial Park, Finley; and Tocumwal Foreshore (between the river and road reserve).
It was recommended that council prepare proposals for further alcohol free zones as follows:
• Finley (commercial and residential area)
• Tocumwal (commercial and residential area)
• Berrigan (commercial and residential area)
• Barooga (commercial and residential area)
In an alcohol free zone, police have the power to confiscate and tip out alcohol.
Councillors were advised the proposal was supported by NSW Police, providing them with a tool to manage anti-social behaviour.
Council voted to prepare proposals for the four listed zones.
