For the past four years, Cr Andrew Kennedy has been the sole Mulwala-based councillor.
Whilst not always, there have usually been two councillors from Mulwala.
Whilst representing the whole of the Federation Council area, Cr Kennedy has represented Mulwala well. But he needs the support of another Mulwala-based councillor for the ever-growing Mulwala and surrounds.
“We need another voice,” Cr Kennedy told the Yarrawonga Chronicle. “Mulwala is growing, there are big residential subdivisions recently approved, we have so much going for the town and we must ensure we are fairly represented – by having two councillors.”
Mulwala Progress Association President Robert Purtle OAM is most proud of Mulwala. “As far as I’m concerned, we’re the jewel in the crown, in Federation Council,” he said.
“But we must have a strong voice on council and two councillors are better than one.
“Federation Council is a big area and we must have a strong presence on council. We can’t afford to slip.
“We have interests and issues, and we need to keep these matters at the forefront of council deliberations.”
Mr Purtle and Cr Kennedy appeal to townspeople to seriously consider standing for council.
Cr Kennedy, a business manager, is keen to continue the fight for Mulwala. “Being a councillor certainly has its rewards,” he said.
“I know some people who might believe they may not have enough time to be a councillor. I’m busy in my job but still make time for councillor work and I’m glad I am a councillor.
“There are things of great interest to you and when they come off, it’s a great feeling.”
