Since the first event on July 30, 2022, every Saturday morning at 8am, people from Yarrawonga and other parts of Australia and the world have gathered at the Yarrawonga event to either walk, run or volunteer. For many, this is now an integral part of their weekend.
Event director Tim Roadley said that the tradition of holding an event at the same place and time each Saturday gives people a great way to start their weekend, whether that is a person visiting the area on holidays, catching up with family or local kids preparing for other sports events.
“It is well known that no matter what the weather is like, hot or freezing cold, the volunteers will have the course set up ready to go each Saturday morning,” Tim said.
Over the two years, 110 events, including extras on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, have seen close to 2000 different people attend, thanks to over 230 different people volunteering, some regulars and some visitors helping out when needed.
"There have been some great achievements during the last two years,” Tim added.
“Records have been set for the fastest times, milestones for participation and personal challenges that make you appreciate why Parkrun is one of the best physical and mental activities available in Yarrawonga.
“And it is free and open to anyone who would like to join in.
“So come on down to the Yarrawonga Yacht Club this Saturday at 7:45am and give it a go,” Tim said.
