Police are appealing for witnesses after a driver failed to stop when police attempted to intercept a vehicle near Rochester, instead accelerating to speeds of about 138km/h.
Campaspe police said Rochester police attempted to intercept a black dual-cab Mitsubishi Triton towing a large tandem cage trailer at about 10.36am on Thursday, September 10.
Campaspe police said the driver accelerated to about 138km/h in a 100km/h zone while travelling north along Restdown Rd, narrowly avoiding a collision with an oncoming vehicle.
The ute was displaying the registration UMP986, which police have since identified as a false registration plate.
Police are seeking to identify and speak with the occupants of the oncoming vehicle, who may have witnessed the incident and could provide information to investigators.
Anyone who was travelling on Restdown Rd at the time, witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage or information that may assist police is urged to contact Rochester Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
