Star opening batsman Josh Lawrence is to resume his cricket career with Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club for season 2021/22 after an 18 months’ break from the game.
“I needed a break as I was mentally drained but now I’m really looking forward to playing again,” he told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“It’s a great club, very family orientated and all about pushing the kids forward.”
Lawrence possesses a wealth of experience including two seasons with Carlton Firsts as a wicketkeeper batsman.
The 32-year-old played three seasons with the Lakers before having the break, amassing some 1200 runs, including nearly 800 in his first full season, and subsequently interrupted seasons with weather and Covid-19.
With his setting up of his paving and landscaping A2Z business behind him, he’ll be welcomed back at Vic Park with open arms.
“Josh will be a magnificent addition with his work ethic and professionalism,” club president Glenn Brear said.
“He works very hard on his game and will resume being a great example to younger cricketers.
“A brilliant puller and cutter of the ball, he’s just a marvellous addition.”
The Lakers will aim for a third consecutive A Grade premiership in the Wangaratta District competition. Lawrence wants to be part of one which is gets played and played right out.
Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club is set up beautifully for a strong tilt again at a premiership with highly respected new coach Michael Drake, the steadying hand of club president Glenn Brear, existing players and the return of gun batsman Lawrence.
