Starting on February 2, 1986, Ray has been nothing but a loyal servant to Murray Irrigation Limited for the last 29 years.
The pay-off has been the wealth of diverse experiences Ray has accumulated.
Ray’s father, Moona Reid, had been at the Finley irrigation plant for close to 30 years, before making the move to Deniliquin.
He then spent another 10 years with Murray Irrigation, retiring after 41 years combined.
Ray’s brother Gary Reid also put in a good knock with Murray Irrigation Limited, finishing up with a 37 year stint.
Ray started his career with Murray Irrigation in the construction space, moving up to become a plant operator for Murray Irrigation.
He got the job after initially being approached to apply by then work supervisor Terry Bolson.
“I was 28 when I started with them, before it even became Murray Irrigation,” Ray said.
“Dad was in Finley for 30 years, and then Gary started.”
The collective years of 107 among the three Reid men is truly impressive.
As Ray bids farewell to Murray Irrigation Limited, he eagerly anticipates retirement and the opportunity to focus on life's simple pleasures.
He says he plans to “just catch up on fishing and camping”.
Reflecting on his long tenure at Murray Irrigation Limited and sharing his career highlights, Ray said the family connection was something to be proud of.
“Working with family has been a highlight, but I do enjoy the work and care about it.
“I have also been able to work with some great crews.”
